Welcome to the Travis picking course info page!

Travis picking is a fingerstyle guitar technique popularized by Merle Travis in the 1940s and '50s which inspired guys like Chet Atkins, Doc Watson, and Thom Bresh (Merle's son) amongst countless others. What's considered Travis picking now is more in line with what Chet Atkins did but it's really a very broad category. I've always considered the song Dust in the Wind to be the holy grail of Travis picking tunes because of how popular and accessible it became and because of how simple it is for beginner guitarists to learn and build on.
